My sis is a fabulous Assistant Director for a gorgeous art gallery, and she always lets me know when the must-see exhibits are being featured.
This outfit is from one of my last visits to her gallery.
I wanted to choose something fun for the night, so of course... a yellow polka-dot skirt seemed a solid choice.
Whats more fun than yellow polka-dots?
The rest of the pieces I chose were simple and classic, and really just let the skirt stand out. The skirt made the outfit. Well... I made the outfit... around the skirt, but you know what I mean.
The Blazer
The gray Gap blazer totally added structure to this outfit. Love this piece because it can pretty much go with anything. Its not a traditional blazer, because it doesn't have a collar, so it caught my attention just from its few bits of unique detailing. Love the slit pockets and the fabric covered buttons. Its simple, but it just adding just this one item gave the whole look a little more depth, making it go from just a skirt and top, to an outfit.
The Pattern Mix
I paired a fun purple and white chevron print clutch with the yellow skirt. Purple and yellow are complementary colors. With the mustard (darker) yellow and the eggplant (darker) colored purple, the two hues worked together without clashing. I can say the same for the patterns. The skirt has a more subtle pattern than the clutch, so the two mixed together nicely. The rest of my outfit was so simple, so all the pieces fell in to place ;) At least... I liked the end result.
The White Shirt
Okay, so this shirt really isn't "white". I don't know what color you would call it other than "off white". So there you go. But I am one who swears by owning a white (off white) button down. They are a fantastic staple. This shirt, in particular, is honestly one of my favorite pieces. The material is soft and easy to wear. It falls just right. I have paired this with so many different outfits! I don't know what will happen if I ever stain it... my wardrobe will never quite be the same again.
Enough of the dramatics... look in you closet to see if you can find a "fun" piece to build an outfit around.
Let me know what that one item is!
I'm always available to shoot out ideas for styling tips if you want help with that fun piece. Happy outfit making :)
